Be More Extraordinary

For 40 years, the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS) has been helping homeless animals in our community. Every year we care for more than 700 cats and dogs in need and aid hundreds more through programs that help people and pets. Through our values, we deliver services to our community that reflect our integrity, respect, compassion and joy for all people and animals. During 2019, 716 cats and dogs found loving homes through NAHS’s adoption program, and over 650 animals were transported to NAHS from high kill facilities. In addition to caring for homeless pets, we offer a free behavior helpline that provides caring pet advice and resources, a Safe Pets program that assists families in crisis (such as domestic violence or homelessness), various humane education and pet therapy programs for people of all ages, and two established funds dedicated to powerful causes (the Lucky 7 Fund for senior pets, and our Pets for Vets Fund for veterans and/or first responders).

After 40 years, the dream of larger facility is finally a reality! Our expansion project will not only enable NAHS to increase the number of cats and dogs we are able to take in, but also allow us to grow our existing programs and introduce new ones. With your assistance, we can make our revamped shelter a place that meets the needs of the animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

WHY DO WE NEED A LARGER FACILITY?
• Improved kennel/room design and materials will improve the health of the animals
• Expand our humane education efforts
• Engage the community in ways we currently cannot
• Offer on-site training for our own dog population as well as for the public

HOW IS THIS IMPROVING ANIMAL WELFARE IN OUR COMMUNITY?
• Increase the amount of educational programming that we can offer
• Help other shelters by relieving their overcrowding and educating them on how to provide more humane care

The shelter expansion will not only better protect the health and well-being of our pets but will also include a multi-purpose room for education and training, isolation and intake rooms, a spay/neuter suite, get-acquainted rooms, and more. The square footage for the addition is approximately 4,620.
This new facility will allow for happier, healthier animals housed at Naperville Area Humane Society, more children learning about and practicing compassion, more second chances, and many more adoptable pets’ lives saved. The expansion allows for us to lead our community forward and continue to save hundreds of healthy, adoptable pets from being euthanized in overcrowded shelters every year.
