The LD Fargo Public Library has been at the literal and figurative center of Lake Mills since opening in 1902. Our Gothic Revival building was funded by Lorenzo Dow (LD) Fargo as a community and literary center and serves the entire City of Lake Mills and surrounding townships. We are the only public building in the area with extended hours that welcomes every one for any reason. We have:

  • Books and literacy.
  • Children’s programs.
  • Adult activities.
  • Teen gathering space.
  • Meeting and study space.
  • And more.

For over 20 years we have been limited by our small size. The only building expansion was a north side addition completed in 1966. The City population has doubled since 1970 and our existing 11,500 square feet cannot meet the need of our 10,000 person service population.

The 100 Extraordinary Women project will both fund and build excitement for our proposed $4,500,000 project. The project will slightly expand the building’s footprint and add a second floor to the existing first floor sections. The children’s area will move out of the basement and we will add several private meeting spaces.
