Westby Wisconsin is a small but incredibly artistic community. The Fine Arts Foundation of the Westby Area (FAFWA) had been trying to raise the funds for a performing arts center in the high school for fifteen years. The school district asked the committee to raise $750,000; if they could accomplish this, the school board would take the idea to referendum. They began the 100 Extraordinary Women campaign and, within 3 months, got 140 women to pledge $140,000. As the Committee President said, "We were amazed; women in our community led the way!" This started the fund raising efforts, more than $750,000 was raised and the referendum passed. The Performing Arts Center is now under construction; additional funds are needed for furnishings and to build an operating endowment.
